The main function of a Wellsite Geologist working with a mudlogging company is to monitor and record drilling information to the operating oil company by recording an on-going log of the data retrieved. To accomplish this, data about the drilling operation like collecting data including geologic, geotechnical, geochemical, and other sampling; preparing and assisting in the preparation of reports; and dissemination of information. Data is acquired from a number of different sources and transferred to the mudlog which is typically distributed via email twice daily back to the oil company or displayed through a real-time network.
The geologist interprets the log information collected during drilling and communicates to the supervising geologist and all members of the drilling team. The geologist will also trouble shoot problems that occur and perform maintenance tasks on the mudlogging equipment. Collects and develops information on properties of various geologic formations, earth, and earth materials.
Geologic mapping using well log, petrophysical and seismic data;
Develop regional stratigraphic correlations.
Generate and update geologic maps, cross-sections and presentations.
Provide technical support to operating and reservoir teams.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the oil field and/or with geo-steering, Bachelor’s degree or above – particularly in Geology.
