The Drilling Superintendent is responsible for the overall supervisor of one or more rigs in a designated area and as such oversees the daily drilling operations, well complexity, logistics, and communicating with the Operator’s representative. Furthermore, the role involves planning, reviewing, coordinating, monitoring, auditing, supervising and reporting on all manner of the rig’s activities. The Drilling Superintendent ensures that safe and environmentally-friendly drilling operations are conducted at all times. The Drilling Superintendent will work closely with colleagues, maintenance personnel and upper management.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Plan and direct drilling rig equipment utilization for projects to include, but not limited to, coordinating rig moves and location visits.
- Monitor rig expenditures and order spending.
- Support the Company’s HSE policies and procedure by monitoring sites for safety violations to pro-actively prevent accidents.
- Establish and maintain working relationship with customer personnel at rig and district level.
- Set goals and objectives for rig personnel and monitor performance.
- Ensure that all Company policies and procedures are adhered to on rig.
- Oversee major overhaul of rig components and conduct rig visits and inspections.
- Assist purchasing, safety, personnel and maintenance departments for operations.
- Attend mandatory meeting as requested.
- Review and discuss reports pertaining to rig operation.
- Be available on an on-call basis for assigned rig.
- Act as the liaison during rig refurbishments to ensure fluidity of information between rig personnel and the Project Manager.
- Abide by Company policies and procedures.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma is required.
- Previous experience as a Rig Manager is essential to supervise the drilling operation and make necessary recommendation in emergency situations as well as during rig downtime.
- Should have 5+ years work experience as a Field Superintendent and experience in supervising others.
- At least 10 years of Oilfield experience is a must.
- Must be a detail oriented, self-starter and able to work with little supervision while maintaining goals/tasks.
- Should have good PC skills to include all MS Office products.
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with staff, management, customers and vendors.
- Must possess sound reasoning skills and have the ability to follow directions.

- Responsible for avoiding injury resulting from manual handling tasks associated with his/her employment, by use of risk assessment, correct mechanical handling equipment and correct manual handling techniques.
