Derrickman

The Derrickman is primarily responsible for handling tubulars in the derrick and maintaining the mud (drilling fluid) system. The Derrickman is responsible for working on the mud tanks and pumps and mixing chemicals in a safe and efficient manner under the direct supervision of the driller or the assistant driller. In addition, the Derrickman supervises the crews at times, so must be a good role model for others to follow.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid Driver’s License is required and must have a reliable vehicle for transportation to and from the rigs.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
  • High school education or equivalent is preferred but not required.
  • At least 1 year previous derrickman experience or as deemed sufficient by management.
  • Must be able to lead others.
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • This position requires working at heights in excess of 100′ for continuous or long periods of time. Good balance, coordination, strength, endurance and a strong safety attitude is a must.
  • Work is normally performed out-of-doors, where exposure to atmospheric conditions of extreme heat or cold and chemical handling are frequent.

Due to chemical handling requirements, specialized personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required. Applicants may be required to successfully pass a pulmonary function test, be medically cleared and able to be fit tested.

Typical 14 days on/off rotation.
